Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, succintly laid out the stance of 160+ GOP House lawmakers as he joined another bastion of common sense and racial diversity, Josh Hawley, in their ‘no’ votes on the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act.
“We can’t legislate away hate,” Roy said on the House floor ahead of their vote.
And the intent of their feelings seems fairly clear: while they can’t legislate away hate, they can suggest it as a course of action if circumstances make it politically expedient.
The Former Wretch in Chief and Prime Insurrectionist helped spur a sudden spike in hate crimes in general – and again Asian Americans in particular – and Roy and Hawley are thrilled to be along for the ride.
